Denne verksemda var i privat eige – under Fossum bruk. Hotellet hadde stall, og hadde ikkje alkoholskjenking. Tiltaket retta seg mot bøndene som kom til byen med tømmer. Dei skulle ha ein trygg plass å bu, og dei skulle ikkje «drikka opp pengane» før dei kom seg heim att.
